Mark Gauci CD, MTM, BSc, CEO

Mark is a retired member of the Canadian Forces with twenty years’ distinguished service. His military career saw him working in such fields and radio and satellite communications, IT and network security, aircraft electronics installation, testing and repair, as well as asset and personnel management both in Canada and during his tour of duty in the middle east. Mark’s civilian experience is as equally varied having worked in IT, financial planning, and sales environments.

Since retiring Mark has concentrated his efforts on higher education. He has earned his Bachelor of Science with a major in Computer Science in 2015, along with a Master of Technology Management, both completed at Memorial University.

Mark enjoys his time at home with his partner Monique, his four children Heather and her partner Will, Stanley, Eric and Alex, and his grandson Owen.

Mark gives back to the community through his efforts with several non-profit and charitable organizations such as the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association of Newfoundland Labrador on the Governance Committee, Empower, and The Bowring Park Foundation. Mark has volunteered with a few organizations in the past including VETS Canada, Rotary International, and Scouts Canada.

Recently Mark has co-founded the company Mentic Wellness Technologies. Mentic’s flagship product, the Mentic Wellness Platform is a collaborative telehealth platform that specializes in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Speech therapy, with more therapy types to follow.

Haris Barki, Bsc, CTO

Haris is an Entrepreneur and Software Developer and is Chief Technology Officer at Mentic. He has multiple years of experience under his belt in rapid prototyping and development. Haris has helped several med tech start-ups with MVP’s and demos while working at Bounce Lab as consultant.

Don Hookey, CD, COO

Donald Hookey was born and lived most of his life in Newfoundland. At the age of 18 he enrolled into the Canadian Armed Forces and served 16 years in both the Navy and the Army. He completed two 
tours of duty overseas.

In 2009 he retired from the Canadian Armed Forces and returned to Newfoundland where he now resides with his lovely wife and two daughters in Conception Bay South (just outside St. John’s). He went back to school and received a diploma in Business Administration – Accounting and transferred his 
credits to Memorial University of Newfoundland where he is completing his Business Administration

As Mentic’s Chief Operations Officer, he hopes to help the company become world renown and to 
help the company become a major world competitor in */+health tech software.

Felix Asemota, MBA, BSc, Business Development Officer

Felix is a Business Development professional with more than 15 years’ experience. He holds a degree in Economics and an MBA both from the University of Ife, Nigeria. He is also an alumnus of the IMF Institute’s training stream on balance of payments and international trade. Felix started his career as a research economist at the central bank of Nigeria. In response to the need for a sustained real sector response under the structural adjustment program, he moved on secondment from the central bank to the newly established development bank – the National Economic Reconstruction Fund where he rose to the position of Head, Research.

He coordinated the monitoring teams of the African Development Bank to sub projects in Nigeria and produced the loan utilization reports for the UA100 million loan to the small and medium sized industrial enterprises sector in Nigeria. Felix also had a brief stint in commercial banking as Head, 
Special Projects in the office of the Managing Director at Continental Trust Bank – one of the three 
banks that fused into the United Bank for Africa.

Felix subsequently functioned as the Chief Operating Officer of Biden Marine where he oversaw the acquisition of the company’s first sea going vessel and grew the fleet to five vessels. Felix’s top skills 
are in market analysis, macroeconomic data and analysis, project finance, credit analysis and business consulting. On the extracurricular side, Felix is a newspaper columnist and nature enthusiast.

Esther Ihejirika, MA, BSc, Business Development Officer

Esther Ihejirika is the Business Development Officer at Mentic Wellness Technologies. She has a passion for assisting people to discover great business opportunities that will result in an organization’s growth. Esther has a master’s degree in Economics from the Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has spent most of her career in the telecommunication and service industry, gaining experiences in areas such as sales, business development, and marketing. While business development is her primary job function by day, Esther also enjoys cooking and providing home support services to disabled persons.
